You may remember last year, around February time, whilst doing my Masters, I shared that I had been doing an excursion module – tone in poetry.
Well, I have been dabbling in writing some poetry this last month. I have written three poems and I have to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed it … says the person who’d always felt she never really understood it!
I confess I do still feel like that sometimes but I am told it’s normal to feel like that – not all poems are written for you to understand them. I think for me though, as I’m so used to reading and writing fiction, I expect poetry to tell me some kind of story and it doesn’t always. Ultimately, I guess I am still learning.
Talking of writing fiction. Just a little update, I’ve nearly finished writing Chapter 11. I had to change the ending of Chapter 10 because it had road blocked me. The new edit now has repercussions for Chapter 11 and some future chapters too. I give all my thanks to the person in the #writingcommunity on Twitter who said “What is the worst that can possibly happen because of the change? Write that.” So I did and it works so much better.
Just as an aside, I braved up and sent two of my poems off to a publisher and I’m considering sending my third off to a competition. So watch this space … fingers and toes crossed, eh!
Once again, thanks for tuning in. Keep reading. Keep writing. Keep creating. Until next time …
