I’m pleased to report I have already made a start on the course materials for the new academic year. They went live on the 8th September, thankfully. For any new readers of my blog I am doing a Masters degree in Creative Writing.
I have also made a start on my first assignment which will be Chapter One of my novel or novella (I haven’t quite decided yet) which, of course, brings on new anxieties in itself – any writer will understand when I say this.
Admittedly, I was eager to start and get ahead because I am worried about fitting my course in with working full-time, keeping house as well as having time to see and spend time with family and friends. No doubt it will be a juggling act. On top of that, the decorating of what will be our chill out/library-reading room/guest bedroom – I can’t tell you how excited I am for this room to be completed – which should hopefully be early on in the new year. Finally … finally I will be able to get all my books down from the loft and see all the long-forgotten titles I own.
The new academic year brings with it new worries (can I really do this, am I really good enough, what if my ideas dry up), a new excitement (come on let’s do this, bring it on) and new curiosities (what will my new tutor group be like, fingers crossed they are a friendly, supportive bunch like last year, what will my new tutor be like – from the module website I can see she is very organised, I like that).
I’ve just written a haiku for the occasion, hope you enjoy it!
